Welcome to Book Nook: Our Reading Journey Begins

If you are not a reader, have never considered yourself a “big reader,” or are simply looking to expand your library a little bit, then this might just be the place for you.

For years, reading was never really my thing. After spending so much of life reading textbooks, assignments, and endless school material, I honestly felt like I had read enough to last a lifetime. Then life got busy. Nights became filled with television, scrolling endlessly on my phone, and trying to mentally recover from long days of work. Sound familiar?

Sometimes it takes your phone sending one of those weekly screen time notifications — the ones that say you spent two more hours scrolling than last week — to realize maybe it is time to incorporate something different into your routine.

For us, that realization came during one of the hardest seasons of our lives.

In August of 2025, our home was hit by what was considered a “100-year flood.” We lost everything in our basement. The stress, anxiety, and emotional exhaustion that followed were overwhelming. Starting over is never easy, especially in a world where everything feels expensive and time feels limited.

Instead of slowing down, I found myself diving deeper into my phone than ever before. Endless scrolling became a distraction from the stress, the cleanup, and everything that needed rebuilding. I was looking for something — anything — to quiet my mind for a little while.

Then one simple conversation changed things.

A coworker recommended a book she could not stop talking about. I decided to give it a chance, and surprisingly, I loved it. That one book slowly opened the door to reading in a way I had never experienced before. It gave me something different to focus on. It helped pull me away from constant scrolling and allowed me to slow down, even if only for a few pages each night.

Now, I am definitely not one of those readers finishing 100 books a year. Some weeks I only read a chapter or two. Some nights I do not read at all. But the books that truly leave an impact — the ones worth talking about — are the ones I want to share here.

That is what Book Nook is all about.

This blog is not meant to tell you what you have to read. Everyone’s taste in books is completely different, and that is what makes reading so enjoyable. Some people love thrillers, others romance, fantasy, self-development, memoirs, or cozy small-town stories. The goal here is simply to help inspire people to read a little more, discover books they may not normally pick up, and maybe spend a little less time trapped in the endless social media scroll.

Over time, this space will also grow into more than just book reviews. We will share cozy reading finds, book accessories, home reading setups, journals, bookmarks, lighting, organization ideas, and other products we genuinely use and enjoy as part of our reading journey. If something makes reading more enjoyable for us, there is a good chance we will eventually share it here.

One of the best things about any hobby — whether it is fitness, baking, gardening, shopping, or reading — is the sense of community that comes with it. Books have a way of bringing people together through shared emotions, plot twists, favorite characters, and conversations you never expected to have.

We want Book Nook to feel like that kind of place.

A place where you can discover your next favorite read, talk about books you loved (or hated), and maybe even surprise yourself by stepping outside your normal comfort zone.

So go ahead — pick up something unexpected. Explore a genre you would normally avoid. Read a couple pages before bed instead of opening another social media app.

And maybe, just maybe, let yourself become a little book crazy too.
